Day 2, Day 03 and Day 04: Kalpitiya Beach Click here to readmore

The Kalpitiya peninsula is a great location for a variety of outdoor activities, including kite surfing, snorkeling, whale and dolphin watching, safaris and boating. It is also a wonderful area for bird watching and walking, with miles of clean, open beaches and countryside to roam and enjoy. One of the best beach activities is to book a kite surfing course through the hotel, which comes with all the equipment needed.

Kalpitiya is also one of the best places in the world for whale watching. The world’s largest blue whale colony lives around Sri Lanka. If you are an early bird, you can leave after an early breakfast around 7am for a whale or a dolphin watching tour.

If you are a fan of reef diving or snorkeling, a visit to ‘bar reef of Kalpitiya’ is an excellent opportunity to explore the warm waters. The reef is home to some 156 species of coral and 283 species of fish. Spending 5 hours in a well planned diving and snorkeling experience will take you to the magical world of tropical coral reefs.

One of the most exciting things to do in Kalpitiya is to go for bird watching trekking. Kalpitiya is famed for its large flocks of migrant flamingoes. The large lakes (irrigation reservoirs) in the dry zone are around one hour from the lagoon and attract numerous varieties of ducks, while larger aquatic birds such as stork, heron, egret, spoonbill, pelican, and ibis can also easily be seen in the wetlands. Around mid-August the first migratory species arrive in Sri Lanka. Large flocks of sandpipers, stints, plovers, terns and harriers fly over from Northern India, Siberia, Scandinavia and Western Europe and settle along the lagoons and salterns of the eastern, northwestern and southeastern coasts
