Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura is Sri Lanka’s most important ancient city; it was ruled by Sinhalese kings since the 5th century BC for over 2,500 years as the country’s first capital. It is the birthplace of Sinhala civilization and one of the world’s largest archeological UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is considered as the greatest monastic city of the ancient world. It is also the only metropolis in its period in the eastern hemisphere.
